Our Strategy

Our Strategy is an important document that sets out our preferred routes to achieving our remit. It takes into consideration all the challenges we face in a number of key areas and is structured to be as open and accessible as possible.

In developing our Strategy, we consulted widely with stakeholders, and undertook an environmental assessment of various options.

We received over 270 responses to the consultation on our Draft Strategy from a wide range of individuals and organisations from both the UK and beyond. See the Document Library for published responses.

We will continue to review and shape our approved Strategy. In particular, we will take account of the Government's response to proposals in the Committee on Radioactive Waste Management (CoRWM) Report published in October 2006, and the Low Level Waste (LLW) Policy Review – both of which are fundamentally important to our Strategy.

On 30 March 2006, NDA published its current Government approved Strategy.

Coordination of management of sites' High Level Waste (HLW), Intermediate Level Waste (ILW), and Low Level Waste (LLW).
Commercial Operations
Includes operational facilities, THORP, Sellafield MOX Plant (SMP), and Springfields Fuels.
Nuclear Materials
Includes management of uranics and plutonium.
Competition and Contracting
Includes competition schedule, creation of Site Licence Companies (SLCs), and competition of contracts for Parent Body Organisations (PBOs).
Innovation
Includes promoting innovation, ensuring skills and knowledge available, sponsoring/funding and managing R&D, and creating pension scheme.

Includes NDA's responsibilities, contractor responsibilities, and interactions with regulators.
Socio-economic Issues and Stakeholder Relations
Includes support for social and economic lives of local communities, and engagement with stakeholders at local and national levels.
