Aldermaston
AWE Aldermaston site
The Aldermaston site provides and maintains the warheads for the UK’s nuclear deterrent. The business covers the whole life cycle of nuclear warheads from initial concept and design, through component manufacture and assembly, to in-service support and, finally, decommissioning and disposal.
Radioactive waste reported under the Aldermaston site in the UK Radioactive Waste Inventory also includes waste originating at AWE Burghfield, a former munitions factory, that is responsible for the complex final assembly and maintenance of the warheads while in service, as well as their decommissioning.
