The UK Radioactive Waste Inventory is provided by the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) and the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA). Its publication is one facet of the continuing commitment of the UK Government and the organisations responsible for radioactive wastes to openness and transparency in matters relating to the management of these wastes.

Informing on UK radioactive waste

The UK Radioactive Waste Inventory (i.e. the Inventory) provides comprehensive and up-to-date information on radioactive waste in the United Kingdom. It provides a consistent reference source of information for Government and its agencies, NDA, and others with a role or interest in the management of radioactive waste.

The Inventory is routinely updated and published in the public domain, currently on a 3 yearly cycle. The current Inventory is based on a stock date of 1 April 2007 (i.e. the 2007 Inventory), that is presented in this website.

2007 Inventory

The 2007 Radioactive Waste Inventory (i.e. 2007 Inventory) is the latest public record of information on radioactive waste present in the UK. It describes the sources, quantities and properties of radioactive waste that existed at 1 April 2007 in the UK and that was forecast to arise in the future.

UK Sites

Radioactive waste is managed on 36 sites in England, Scotland and Wales.  They include research facilities, defence activities and power stations.
