Background

PDF Integrated Waste Management Overview December 2009 (1Mb)
This document sets out our strategy for management of radioactive waste. We seek to take a coherent estate-wide and UK-wide approach to NDA operations, and intend that our integrated waste strategy (IWS) achieves that aim and that it complements the integrated waste strategies that are produced on a site-by-site basis.

PDF National Policies on the Long-term Management of Higher Activity Wastes April 2008 (47kb)
This document provides an update on all countries that require a national policy and implementation programme for the long-term management of its wastes.

Reports

PDF UK Radioactive Higher Activity Waste Storage Review March 2009 (973kb)
This Review includes storage regimes for solid intermediate level waste (ILW) (raw and immobilised) and for high level waste (HLW) across the UK on both NDA and non-NDA sites and considered the following; waste conditioning plans, existing store information (where a waste is due to be relocated to a new store), store design lives and lifetime extension capability, store environmental controls, monitoring and inspection regimes and storage optimisation of conditioned wastes.

Consultation Documentation

Draft UK Radioactive Waste Storage Review Report January 2009 (811kb)
This Review includes storage regimes for solid Intermediate Level Waste (ILW) (raw and immobilised) and for High Level Waste (HLW) across the UK on both NDA and non-NDA sites and considered the following: current storage arrangements; hazard reduction of historical wastes; robustness of interim storage in relation to Geological Disposal Facility (GDF) timescale changes; planning constraints and conditions for interim stores; storage environmental controls and monitoring/inspection regimes; future waste arisings (e.g. final site clearance wastes); storage optimisation of conditioned wastes that addresses the NDA Strategy commitment.
