Competition and Contracting

We will compete the management and operation of our sites. We believe that the early introduction of competition is necessary to stimulate improved performance and to bring in new ideas and experience.

We propose to let a contract for Sellafield.

We launched our first competition in April 2006 for the LLW Repository near Drigg.

New Site License Companies (SLCs) have been created to enable the completion of our competition schedule. This requires the relicensing of nuclear sites and new radioactive discharge authorisations to be obtained.

Site management competition will be for separate, stand-alone legal entities.

The relevant UKAEA assets were transferred by the Government to the NDA by 31 March 2007.

Invitations to tender will be prepared and posted in the OJEU, with fair and open competitions run.
