Support for North Wales supply chain
11 December 2009

NDA staff were delighted to support a very successful Meet the Buyer Event in Caernarfon, North Wales, early in December.
This was a joint initiative organised by Menter a Busnes, Wylfa, Trawsfynydd, the Welsh Assembly Government, Ynys Môn and Gwynedd County Councils and Bangor University.
The event attracted 143 organisations who shared a vision of building a sustainable local supply chain. The event offered local businesses the opportunity to meet the Magnox North suppliers, the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority, local business support organisations and learn about potential commercial opportunities for businesses in many different trades, such as construction, plant hire, roof repairs and many more.
NDA Market Development Manager Sam Dancy said: 'It was great to see Tier 2 contractors from both Wylfa and Trawsfynydd sites making themselves available to discuss future opportunities with those smaller companies lower down in the supply chain, for both work at the sites as well as highlighting further opportunities within other industries where they have a presence. There was a real buzz about the room on the day, and we received very positive feedback from the local businesses who attended."
The Tier 2 contractors found the event a great opportunity to meet new and existing contacts. A representative from Hertel said: "We can definitely offer opportunities to the companies we have met today."
A prospective sub-contractor said: "I have found it difficult to get a foot in the door of the nuclear industry so this is great".
The event also included a workshop by Venn Management on the power of collaborative procurement within small to medium-sized enterprises.
It is hoped that local companies will now be better placed to compete for any work at the Magnox North sites in North Wales.
