Increased visibility of funding for communities

Communities around NDA sites will now be able to see more clearly how and where the NDA invests its socio-economic budget.
In response to requests from stakeholders, our website has been revised to provide details of organisations that have received funding over the past four years.
We have also published detailed plans for the four areas identified as needing most support following the decommissioning of NDA sites. These outline specific requirements for the affected areas and proposed future activities.
The four priority areas are:
- West Cumbria, near Sellafield and Low Level Waste Repository sites
- Caithness and North Sutherland, near Dounreay site
- Anglesey and Meirionnydd, near Wylfa and Trawsfynydd sites; and
- The Gretna-Lockerbie-Annan corridor in Dumfries and Galloway, near Chapelcross site.
The plan details will be updated to reflect changing circumstances, while plans will also be developed for other NDA sites.
Bob Churchill, NDA's Head of Socio-Economic Development, said:
"We have learnt much about the different socio-economic needs and conditions of the areas close to our sites that are most significantly impacted by our decommissioning work. Community representatives and organisations are keen to develop robust business cases for the work that is needed in their areas, so this information should provide a valuable reference tool for people planning to apply for funding.
"We will continue to work closely with regeneration and economic redevelopment organisations, community leaders, the Site Licence Companies and the Parent Body Organisations to ensure that coordinated project plans deliver identified socio-economic activities."
Jon Phillips, NDA's Director of Communications and Stakeholder Relations, said:
"We are pleased to respond to stakeholder requests to make all this information publicly available. It is important to maintain the visibility of socio-economic project performance. We recommend that interested parties sign up to our web alert to be notified of reports and stories on the socio-economic work undertaken."
