Janet cops Police Authority role
21 May 2008
NDA’s Head of Security, Safeguards and Non-proliferation, Dr Janet Wilson, has been appointed a member of the Civil Nuclear Police Authority.
Announcing the appointment and that of Peter Bradley, Head of Engineering, Projects and Estates at Urenco (Capenhurst) Limited, Chairman Melvyn Smith said:
“I am delighted to welcome Janet and Peter who bring impressive expertise to the authority.”
The Civil Nuclear Police Authority was set up under the Energy Act 2004. It has seven members all appointed by the Secretary of State at the Department of Business Enterprise and Regulatory Reform (BERR).
The Authority is the employer for all of the 800 officers and staff in the Civil Nuclear Constabulary and the Chief Constable reports directly to its Chairman.
Janet said:
“I’m looking forward to the challenge of having governance and oversight of the Civil Nuclear Constabulary. The CNC is a unique constabulary that performs a vital role for the UK civil nuclear industry in defending our sites against possible terrorist attack and denying unauthorised access to our nuclear materials and technology.”
The Civil Nuclear Constabulary is a specialised armed police force responsible for protecting the civil nuclear sites and nuclear materials in England, Scotland and Wales.
