Sunny day for Oldbury SSG meeting

06 October 2008

Oldbury Site Stakeholder Group

It was an unseasonally warm summer’s day when the Oldbury Site Stakeholder group met at the Village hall in Oldbury-on-Severn at the beginning of August.

Chairman Malcolm Lynden welcomed the large turnout for the meeting in the picturesque south Gloucestershire village.

He said the members had taken advantage of a boat trip to look at the station from the river vantage. “It was a very good day and very informative.”

Stephen Barker, the NDA’s Site Programme Manager told the meeting the NDA Board had supported the development of a plan by Magnox to look at the possibility of extending the generating life of the plant beyond the scheduled closure date of December 2008.

Dr Joyshri Sarangi a Consultant in Communicable Disease Control at the Heath Protection Agency in the South West gave a presentation on her organisation’s role in the event of a major incident in the area which includes any acute radioactive incident.

Malcolm Lynden told the meeting he wanted to set up a sub-committee to look at the existing constitution for the SSG in the light of the NDA’s National Review of Local Arrangements and particularly to examine their current membership.
