Locally based firms win NDA's Maintenance, Repair and Operations collaborative procurement contract

09 November 2011

Signing a contract

A number of West Cumbrian based firms have been successful in bidding for a three year framework agreement across the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority estate which could be worth almost £100 million.

The framework agreement covers the provision of Maintenance, Repair and Operations (MRO) Consumables at Sellafield and across the rest of the NDA's estate.

Locally based suppliers Thomas Graham & Sons Ltd, ERIKS, Park Gate, Speedy, and WF Senate were successful in bidding to be included in the framework – which could be extended into a fourth year depending on its success.

The competition was carried out as a collaborative procurement on behalf of the NDA and the various Site Licence Companies across their estate by Sellafield Ltd.

The total potential value of the agreements across the NDA estate is £96 million; with Sellafield Ltd spend accounting for £59 million over the four year period.

Keith Case, NMP Commercial Director for Sellafield Ltd said:

"We believe each of the suppliers has the specialist experience in their field which will deliver benefits and drive efficiencies, providing value for our customer and our respective organisations".

Russell Smith, from Thomas Graham & Sons Ltd, said:

"We are proud that against stiff competition from national and multi-national companies a local Cumbrian family firm such as ours has shown it is capable of stepping up to the mark and winning a £25.3 million contract to supply the NDA estate throughout the UK.

"In these tough economic times it is good news not only for us but the local community, the award of the contact not only secures the future of out current 125 employees but we are looking to recruit another 11 members of staff to help manage the contract."

Ron Gorham, the NDA's Head of Supply Chain Optimisation, said:

"Collaborative procurements such as this one provide the site licence companies that manage sites across our estate with the opportunity to get best value for the money they spend. Quite often they are buying the same kinds of goods and services so it makes sense for them to run one procurement process in order to get best value, both in terms of cost and quality of service.

"I'm personally delighted to see firms in West Cumbria presented with opportunities to do business with a wider market then just the Sellafield site itself." The award of the agreements is subject to final contract formalities, with an anticipated 'Go Live' date of the 1st January 2012.
