Russians visit Hunterston A
21 June 2012
On behalf of the NDA, Hunterston recently hosted a three-day visit by Rosatom Nuclear State Energy Corporation, the owner and operator of the nuclear reactors in Russia.
The aim of their visit was to learn about the technologies we are deploying for ILW retrieval, treatment, storage and disposal.
Rosatom were very impressed with the decommissioning progress being made within Magnox. Hunterston was complimented on its high standard of facilities which have built for ILW retrieval, treatment and storage, and provided a standard to be aspired to.
John Mathieson, NDA Head of International Relations, said:
"Whilst the NDA are often credited for the good progress of decommissioning across the UK this can only be achieved by the dedication and professionalism of the staff and contractors at the sites. Hunterston provided a great example of this to our Russian friends."
Dmitriy Bakhturin of Rosatom said
"We were very impressed with the information from the presentations and the site tour including the safety and work culture of the Magnox staff. It was very useful to get a wider understanding of the NDA tasks to be done and basic approaches to successfully solve the problems, including the strategy and business organisation."
