Re-competition of the NDA’s Direct Research Portfolio - Update

11 November 2011

More than 70 organisations have expressed an interest in working on the NDA's portfolio of directly funded research.

Four Direct Research Portfolio (DRP) framework contracts are available, either to individual organisations or consortia, who will focus on research in the following areas:

  • University interactions
  • Integrated waste management
  • Site restoration
  • Spent fuel and nuclear materials

The contracts are competed every four years and were last awarded in 2008.

A Supplier Information Day has already been held, and the first stage of the re-competition of the DRP[1] has been completed with organisations submitting completed Pre-Qualification Questionnaires.

Research Manager Darrell Morris said:

"We were particularly pleased with how well the day was attended and have received many positive comments. It has clearly contributed to the number and breadth of organisations who have expressed an interest in the DRP."

The next phase of the process will start shortly with the issuing of the full tender documentation. There is still time for organisations to join existing consortia. For further details please contact procurement.eoi@nda.gov.uk

[1] The DRP is the NDA's strategic R&D portfolio and involves Research & Development (R&D) that informs the development of NDA's strategy, develops innovative decommissioning and clean-up technology and supports the development of key technical skills fundamental to the NDA's decommissioning mission.
