Chairman sets out his top NDA priorities

11 July 2008

Chairman, Stephen Henwood, set out his top priorities for the NDA when he gave his first address to the National Stakeholder Group meeting in Edinburgh.

He said his priorities are

  • funding, and following the CSR settlement the review of the funding model
  • the successful outcome to the Sellafield Competition
  • developing the NDA Board members and
  • the development of the Senior Management Team as well as a succession plan for them.

“I believe in what the NDA is trying to do and that its mission is of importance to the country. I would like to emphasise my commitment to openness and transparency as well as the importance of this type of forum,” he said.

He said the NSG forum was not just a talking shop and that he was very supportive of the consultation process.

“We define the Strategy and consult around it. I am very committed to it. I believe there is scope for the NDA to think a lot more about getting the best value out of your valuable time and to ensure that your contribution is reflected by us in taking the work forward,” he said.

He said the NDA had to be realistic about what it could achieve within its funding limits and he accepted that it would be difficult to satisfy everyone. He reflected how impressed he was to see the stakeholders getting “passionately involved” in the workshops at the NSG.

“The quality of what we do is enhanced by your contributions to the process,” he added.
