Trawsfynydd Power Station is unique in that the power station was built inland adjacent to a lake which provided cooling water when the station was operational. Trawsfynydd ceased to generate electricity in 1991.
All fuel has been removed from the reactors and decommissioning is well underway. 2010 saw the implementation of the Accelerated Care and Maintenance Business Case, and activity during the reporting period was focused on the delivery of an accelerated decommissioning plan.

| Cost - Lifetime (total discounted nuclear liability) |
£675m |
* The costs of discharging the nuclear liability will be incurred over a significant period of time. To take account of the time value of money, the costs are "discounted" back to a present value. Effectively this is the amount that would need to be invested today, at a set rate of interest (the discount rate) in order to pay for the liability in the future as it falls due.
