A unique opportunity to join the team developing a major, high profile, complex project. Build on your technical expertise in underground design and construction as part of the team developing the geological disposal facility for the UK's radioactive waste.
About us
Dealing with the past. Protecting the future. The Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA) has been appointed by the Government to implement geological disposal for higher activity radioactive waste. Our Radioactive Waste Management Directorate (RWMD) is being developed into a wholly owned subsidiary and a nuclear Site Licence Company (SLC), which will progress this vital work. RWMD will develop a Geological Disposal Facility (GDF) and associated transport system.
About the role
Joining us at a critical stage, you'll have the opportunity to help shape our forward plans. Specifically, you'll help develop our GDF design capability as we move from a generic design phase into the early stages of site specific conceptual design. The role will include developing design solutions for the surface facilities, surface to underground connections and the underground layout and working arrangements. You will work closely with our supply chain partners to specify work and managing successful delivery of key elements of our work programme.
About you
Whilst some knowledge of the nuclear industry would be helpful, we are ideally looking for relevant experience of civil engineering, mining, tunnelling or underground operations. You will have significant experience of contract specification and management of contracts for engineering design. You will have a good first degree or equivalent in engineering and hold (or be working towards) chartered membership status in a relevant professional institute.
