NDA Response to HSE Statement on THORP Re-start
10 January 2007
The NDA are pleased that the Health and Safety Executive has today (10 January 2007) granted consent for the re-start of the THORP facility at Sellafield.
However, a move to full production will only be authorised by the NDA when our contractor – BNG Sellafield Ltd, has shown that it is viable to do so. As reported before Christmas, there remains an issue over the capacity of evaporators elsewhere on the Sellafield site to handle liquid wastes from THORP. Our contractor is tackling this issue as a matter of urgency but there is currently no formal timetable.
