Latest NDA Statement on THORP
02 June 2005
On Friday 27th May 2005 the NDA received a copy of the British Nuclear Group investigation into the incident that recently occurred at THORP.
We will now need time to give full consideration to its conclusions and recommendations and also to understand the actions that will be taken by BNG management in response to the findings. In addition we must await the outcome of the NII’s own considerations.
Over the coming weeks we will be exploring the options for going forward from a safety, technical and financial perspective. There are a range of complex issues raised by the difficulties at THORP and it will take some time to explore them properly.
At this point in time, therefore, the NDA has not made any decisions about the future of THORP but has set in train a number of workstreams to inform our view. Ultimately, the final decision on the way forward will be made by Government.
Safety is the NDA’s absolute priority and we remain reassured that there is no risk to the public as a result of the incident.
