NDA Issues Final Tenders for Sellafield Contract
21 December 2007
The Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA) is pleased to confirm that, in line with its planned competition schedule, Invitations to Submit Final Tenders have now been issued for the Sellafield Parent Body Organisation (PBO). The release of the tender documents follows the completion of eight months of competitive dialogue with four bidders. Tender responses are scheduled to be returned to the NDA in the spring of 2008. An announcement of the winning PBO bidder is currently planned for the summer of 2008.
Mark Leggett, NDA Commercial Director said
"We are pleased to have reached this final stage of the Sellafield competition programme on time and with a healthy field of four bidders who have all come through the competitive dialogue process."
The four bidders being invited to submit final tenders are:
1. CH2MHill Nuclear Services Ltd.
2. Fluor Limited in partnership with Toshiba
3. SBB Nuclear, consisting:
- Serco
- Bechtel
- Babcock & Wilcox (recently re-branded from BWXT)
4. Nuclear Management Partners Ltd, consisting:
- Washington International Holdings Ltd.
- AMEC
- AREVA NC
The PBO contract will be for up to 17 years and the successful bidder will own all the shares in Sellafield Ltd for the duration of the contract. Sellafield Ltd is the Site Licence Company (SLC) which manages the Sellafield, Calder Hall, Windscale and Capenhurst nuclear sites. The SLC has an annual turnover in excess of £1billion with all of its funding coming from the NDA.
Our other current competition, for the Low Level Waste Repository near Drigg, is nearing completion, being in the final stages of negotiation with its preferred bidder, UK Nuclear Waste Management. It is anticipated to conclude early 2008.
