NSG8 Meeting Reports Published
25 August 2009
NDA's 8th National Stakeholder Group (NSG) took place on 17 and 18 June 2009 at the Hilton Manchester Deansgate.
The event brought together more than 100 of NDA's national stakeholders. Attendees varied from regulators to SLC representatives and from Government representatives to Site Stakeholder Group Chairs.
The Chairman was the first to take to the stage with news of the appointment of a new Chief Executive Officer, he then handed the floor to Bill Roberts who spoke about progress since NSG 7 and the challenges that the NDA is currently facing. The stakeholders then had an opportunity to question the Executive. Issues raised included, staff bonuses, 25 year decommissioning and the NDA's remit. Richard Mrowicki then gave an update on the Strategy Management System before breaking for lunch.
In the afternoon, stakeholders signed up for two out of six workshops. Most of these were discussing topic strategies, which gave stakeholders an opportunity to hear about, input into and influence our developing strategy. The NDA staff involved in these sessions will now incorporate the comments received into their topic strategies.
Day one ended with a joint presentation from the NDA and Sellafield Ltd on the challenges of the Sellafield site - a session which was specifically requested by stakeholders
On day two, a different approach was trialled; the whole of the morning was dedicated to the strategic theme of waste. Presentations were given on different aspects of waste (low level waste strategy, waste optimisation and storage of waste) and after each presentation stakeholders were asked to discuss a number of questions around their tables.
This technique went down extremely well with stakeholders and Phil Davies and his team have received some valuable input into their areas of work.
