Caithness Socio-Economic Forum Established

25 July 2005

The NDA welcomes the establishment of the Caithness Socio-Economic Forum and will have an active role in the important work that lays ahead.

The NDA’s Strategy, due to be published next month, reinforces our commitment to both encourage and support activities that benefit the social and economic lives of communities around the nuclear sites that we are involved with. This new Forum is an excellent way of bringing together the people and organisations that have a role in supporting the local community.

We are extremely conscious of the important role Dounreay has in the local economy, especially as a major employer. A socio-economic study is already underway about the potential impact of decommissioning. That will inform a detailed debate both within the Forum itself and with the local community as we all look to develop alternative sustainable employment strategies.
