Review of timescales for geological disposal of higher activity radioactive waste 
We have published a preliminary response to the Minister’s request for our Radioactive Waste Management Directorate (RWMD) to review the programme for implementing geological disposal of higher activity radioactive waste with a view to bringing the date for first waste emplacement forward from the planned 2040 date to 2029.

Strategic approach to competition

NDA publishes draft Business Plan for consultation 
The Nuclear Decommissioning Authority has published a draft Business Plan 2012 – 2015 for consultation. The consultation will run from 12 December and close on 3 February 2012.

Capenhurst Site Integration Project 
An agreement has been signed confirming the future transfer of the NDA-owned site at Capenhurst to URENCO, which occupies the adjacent nuclear-licensed site in Cheshire.

Babcock Dounreay Partnership named as preferred bidder in Dounreay competition 
The Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA) today announced that Babcock Dounreay Partnership is the preferred bidder in the competition to take ownership of Dounreay Site Restoration Limited, after a two-year public procurement process.

NDA has now decided that proposals to move nuclear materials – breeder material from Dounreay and a range of materials and intermediate level wastes from Harwell – should be taken forward.
