Another top award for world’s deepest nuclear clean-up
The world's deepest nuclear clean-up job has won another top award for engineering excellence. Judges in this year’s Scottish Saltire Awards named the shaft isolation project at Dounreay as one of the country’s best examples of civil engineering.

Disposability assessment for new build waste
Our Radioactive Waste Management Directorate (RWMD) has produced two summary reports on the disposability of higher activity solid radioactive wastes and spent fuel that would be generated by reactors in a new nuclear build programme.

Sellafield land sale agreed
Following a period of market engagement and negotiation with interested parties, NDA has sold an area of land comprising 190 ha (470 acres) lying to the north of the existing site at Sellafield in Cumbria for a value of at least £70 million.

Sellafield MOX Plant (SMP) Current Position
The NDA has concluded that, at this stage, the best course of action is to continued operation of SMP in pursuance of completing the current campaign of fuel manufacture.
They have today written to Sellafield Ltd to advise them their position and asking them to continue to deliver the current manufacturing campaign whilst seeking to improve operational performance.

NDA and Environment Agency Lead
Nuclear Industry Towards Greener Future
Today (Wednesday 7 October) the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority and the Environment Agency are encouraging senior executives through the nuclear industry to become ‘Environmental Leaders’.
The two organisations are jointly hosting the Environmental Leadership conference in Manchester with the aim of sharing and promoting best environmental practice throughout the nuclear industry.
