Sellafield Ltd PBO Competition
Background
Sellafield Ltd is the Site Licence Company (SLC) that manages and operates, on behalf of the NDA, the:
- reprocessing and waste storage facilities at Sellafield;
- former nuclear power stations Calder Hall and Windscale;
- Capenhurst nuclear site; and
- Engineering Design Centre at Risley in Cheshire.
The Sellafield site represents two thirds of the nuclear liabilities for which the NDA is responsible.
The Parent Body Organisation (PBO) provides key managers to the Site Licence Company to provide innovation and strategic direction.
The contract is for an initial period of five years (2008-2013) with options to continue. This contract provides the Parent Body Organisation, through its ownership of the Site Licence Company shares, with responsibility for over £1 billion of annual funding to operate the existing reprocessing facilities and manage the Sellafield decommissioning programme.
Sellafield Ltd Parent Body Organisation
On 24 November 2008:
- Nuclear Management Partners Ltd, the consortium consisting of URS' Washington Division, AMEC and AREVA NC, were awarded the contract.
- As the new Parent Body of Sellafield Ltd, the consortium provides a seconded team of ten individuals into Sellafield Ltd.
- The new Parent Body Agreement and Management and Operation contract came into effect with the transfer of shares in the Site Licence Company from British Nuclear Fuels Ltd to Nuclear Management Partners Ltd.
