New Dounreay contract to save over £1billion
The Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA) today announced completion of one of the UK’s largest public contracts, making savings well in excess of £1 billion for the UK taxpayer when responsibility for the decommissioning of the Dounreay nuclear site in Caithness transferred to a specially created private sector consortium, Babcock Dounreay Partnership.

Dounreay Site Restoration Ltd PBO Competition

Dounreay Site Restoration Ltd (DSRL) is the Site Licence Company (SLC) that manages and operates, on behalf of the NDA, Dounreay site.

The appointed Parent Body Organisation (PBO) provides the vision for the optimal accomplishment of the Dounreay site's mission. It seconds key personnel to form the SLC's senior leadership team to deliver that vision, driving to attain best value for money while maintaining mandatory standards of safety, security and environmental performance.

Dounreay Site Restoration Ltd (DSRL) Parent Body Organisation

On 2 April 2012:

  • Babcock Dounreay Partnership, comprising Babcock Nuclear Services Ltd, CH2M Hill International Nuclear Services Ltd, and URS International Holdings (UK) Ltd, were awarded the contract.
  • As the new Parent Body of DSRL, the consortium provides a seconded team of individuals into DSRL.
  • The new Parent Body Agreement and Management and Operation contract came into effect with the transfer of shares in the Site Licence Company from UKAEA Ltd to Babcock Dounreay Partnership.

 

The two consortia in the competition were:

  • Babcock Dounreay Partnership, Caithness Solutions comprising Energy Solutions EU Ltd and Amec Nuclear Holdings Ltd.
