Review of National Stakeholder Engagement Arrangements and Processes

Type: Non-Statutory

Starting Date: 07/11/2006

Closing Date: 05/07/2007

Background

The first two years of the NDA's stakeholder engagement programme made good progress, with the establishment of a Stakeholder Charter, a National Stakeholder Group (NSG) and two subsidiary groups examining issues in more detail: the Materials Issue Group (MIG) and the Waste Issue Group (WIG) respectively. This is in addition to the establishment of the local arrangements including Site Stakeholder Groups (SSGs).

The November 2006 meeting of the National Stakeholder Group (NSG) recognised that the context of engagement around decommissioning is always changing and it would be appropriate to review the overall arrangements the NDA has in place. The meeting agreed that the NDA and the Convenor should conduct such a review and report to the next NSG meeting on how they intend to move forward.

The consultation paper was the result of the review. It covers the rationale for conducting a review, the components involved in it, the main recommendations and proposed a way forward for future engagement.

A draft engagement plan was then produced in response to the findings of the process review. It sets out what topics the NDA would need to be taking decisions on.
